It’s a triptych with a small opening on the lid. You can take a peek through it. You may open the lid to see what is inside. When you open all the lids, you can only see the content of the bottom most box because the boxes will be lined up vertically.

This is the actual winged eye that I photographed, digitally modified and then use for the header of this blog… Made it from copper and aluminum sheets. I plan to make a smaller one one day.
